The King, who Was accompanied by Queen Mary, laid the foundationstone of a, new school of economics in connection with London University. The project has received substantial support from London merchants, while the trustees of the estate of Sir Ernest Cassell donated £300,000. Tho Lord Mayor, on behalf of the city, today donated £50,000. Replying to an address of welcome, His Majesty,paid a tribute to the response of the universities to the call of the war, and to the brilliant contributions of science in modern warfaro. He emphasised that a London degree was valued far beyond tho British Islea. The advantages afforded by the resources of the metropolis gave its university a unique influence in the education system of the Empire.
