HOCKEY MATCHES
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION SATURDAY’S GAMES PLAYED IN WINTRY WEATHER. The fourth round ot the championship matches of the Wellington Hockey Association was played at Karori on Saturday in wintry weather, the playing fields being very soft. MEN’S SENIORS. WAKATU v. RAMBLERS. The match between Wakatu and Ramblers, played on the No. 1 ground, was an uninteresting affair, ■ Wakatu having the best of the play, the game ending in their favour by four goals to nil . Hood gave a good exhibition, ana succeeded in notching three goals in tho first spell; Wilson adding the fourth goal shortly after half-time. The referee wus Mr G. Cuming. ■ • , ■ ST. AUGUSTINE’S v. UNITED. After a hard and fast game. United narrowly defeated St. Augustine’s by two goals to one, Enemy and Boyd securing tho gods for the. winners and Nicholson for the losers. Referee, Mr R. J. Lloyd. WELLINGTON v. HUIA. Wellington defeated Hnia by live goals to nil, after a decidedly interesting, game, the score being no indication of the play, which was excellent on both sides. Huia, who defeated Central so decisively the previous week, played with hard luck on Saturday. The scorers for Wellington were, Tucker (2), Champness, Ashwin, and O'Brien {1 each). Mr Ash Edwards controlled the game. ... HUTT VALLEY v. KARORI. Karori (3 goals). lost to Hutt Valley (3 goals). F. Lusty (2) and Smith (1). registered for Hutt, and Pell and Lowry for Karori. Mr R. Grade had charge of tie whistle. ’ CENTRAL v. 'VARSITY. Central, playing well, won from Varsity by six goals to two. The scorers were: For Central, Johnston' (5) and Cothro (1;, and for 'Varsity, Cousins and Kirk. Referee, Mr B. A. Ginger. JUNIORS Wesley B drew with Huia, two goals each. ’Cross (2), for Wesley B, and Guy and Sutton for Hnia, were the scorers. Wesley A defeated Karori by tour goals to two. Burton (2), Johnston, and Taylor (1 each) scored for Wesley, and Smith and Waters for the other side. Referee, Mr A. W. Muir. LADIES' SENIORS. Base Records drew with Ramblers B, the scores being two all. Miss Niinmo and Miss McDonnell scored for Base Records, and the Misses Cameron and McCormish for Ramblers. Mr Wallace was referee- - _ Ramblers easily defeated Y.W.C.A. by five to nil, tho scorers being Misses Wilkins (3) and Williams (3). Air R- JLloyd was the referee. . • A tudit-Treasury. five goals, gained the verdict from Hutt Valley, 1 goal. For Audit, Misses Kittp (2), Moffatt (1). Price (1), and McDonald (1) scored, and Miss Herman for Hutt Valley. THE GAME. IN OTAKI. The hockey match, which took place at Levin between the Otaki and Foxlon teams was one of the fastest played for some time, writes the “Times” Otaki correspondent. Both teams showed good form and the match was one above the average. Foxton scored first, followed a quarter of an hour later b- Adsett scoring for Otaki. Thus the first spell ended. The second half was lively, but despite frantic attempts, no further score was registered, although forothe final ten minutes Otaki attacked strongly. Thanks to Paxton’s fine defence the net was not found, and the match thus ended in a draw. Air G. Noble was referee. ■ Playing at Levin the Y.M.C.A. defeated the R.S.A. by 3—3 after an interesting game. Sir H. Mitchell, patron of tho Otaki Club, has generously donated jßl.ls to the funds of tho club. MATCH AT MASTERTON. The Wairarapa correspondent of the "Times” telegraphs that a hockey match between Excelsior. (Masterton) and Greytown ended an a win for the former by 3 goals to 3. Foster (2) and Flaws scored for Ekcelsior, while the goals for Greytown were secured by Hamilton and Smith.
