CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES CONTINUED. (By Telegraph—Special to the “Times.") MASTERTON, May 30. The Wairarapa Rugby Union’s championship , matches were continued on Saturday afternoon. The grounds were heavy as the result of the recent rain, while showers fell during the' play. At Masterton the Bed Stax and Masterton seniors met and owing to the fact that several of the Bed Stars were on tiro sick list and juniors had to he called up to fill their places, it was considered that Masterton would have an easy victory. Weakened though they were the Stars put up a great fight, and, for more than half the game led by eight points to nil, and were finally only beaten by one point, the scores being; Masterton 9 points, Bed Stars 8 points. The Stars bad the best of the play, hut luck was against them. For Masterton Murray kicked two goals, whilst Ball scored a try. For Stars Aldridge and Newlands scored tries, one of which MoEwon converted. The Star forwards were better than Masterton, while the Star backs indulged in the only good passing in the game. Murray’s place ticking won the game, for Masterton, who were lucky to nave’ secured the victory. At Carterton the Gladstone seniors beat Liberal seniors by 20 points to nil. Carterton and Masterton are now in the lead for the premiership, with six points each, and those two teams will meet at Masterton next Saturday. PALMERSTON RESULTS The following were the results of the Rugby matches played in the Palmerston North district on. Saturday;— Senior. —Kaitoa, 13; Feinting Technical School, 8. Diggers. 11; Feilding, B. Western United, 9; Pirates, 3. Junior.—Western United, 0; Jacky town, 35. Pirates, 1; Kairanga. 0. Kail toa, 6; Feilding Union, XL High Schpol, 80; Pohangina, 0. Feilding Technical School, 8; Linton, 13. Third grade.—-High School A, 35; High School B, 0- Jackytowu, 0; Feilding, 21. Palmerston North, 0; Western United, 3.
