FOUND DEAD
WITH SKULL FRACTURED BODY DISCOVERED BY A HOUSE- ' MAID. At 8 o’clock on Saturday morning a housemaid employed at Young’s Private Hotel, Lambton quay, was shocked to discover the body of a man lying in the hotel yard in a pool of blood. Tho housemaid gave tha, alarm, assistance was immediately forthcoming, and the police wore informed of the occurrence. The man was dead, but it was stated that the body was warm when the police arrived on tho scene.
Investigation disclosed that tho deceased was a Russian • subject named Max Wapper, who followed the occupation of a fireman. The deceased was born at Mon, Russia, on September 25th. ISGB, and had been a momj bor of the crew of various ships trading to New Zoifland for the past eight years. In 191 Che was a member of the crew of His Majesty s hospital ship Mamma, and had served in tho Russian Xavy. He was not a naturalised British subject and as far aa is known he had no dependents. Wapper formerly resided at 34, Adelaide road, Wellington. Tho body was found lying in tho hotel yard/ 9 feet away from the wall of the building, and tho indications wore that the skull.was fractured. There was also a wound on tho side of the face which bled freely. There was no evidence of foul play as there were no signs of a struggle haring taken place. Tho supposition is that the deceased came out on _ to the fire escape early in the morning, accidentally slipped, and fell to the 'ground' receiving the injuries which caused his death. An inquest will be opened at 4 o’clock this afternoon.
