FREEMAN INCIDENT

A huge meeting in tho Town Hall passed a motion calling upon tho authorities to release Freeman, and asking allconneeted with the sailing of the Sonoma to refuse duty until been effected. A crowd of several thousands marched from the Trades Hall to the wharf, demanding Freeman's release. Sortie of tho crowd raided Reveral shooting galleries en route, seizing the rilles, but after the announcement was mado that Freeman was being taken ashore the crowd dispersed. Four people were injured during tho fight with tho police.

A big crowd watched the removal of Freeman from the Sonoma to the garrison hospital at tho A T ictoria Barracks pending the decision of the Minister for Defence
Freeman broke his self-imposed fast last evening, when informed that he was to be removed, but is very weak after soveral foodless days. had to be carried out on a stretcher. The wharf- labourers resumed the loading .of the Sonoma when Freeman's removal was assured.
The Minister for Defence promised Mr Tudor and other Labour leaders that the Cabinet would give consideration to their request for a free trial for Freeman.
