DEPRECATORY REMARKS AT LICENSING MEETING. Press Apenaiatlon. ‘ CHRISTCHURCH, June SI. At a meeting of the Licensing Committee ‘ to-day the chairman stated that he had visited many hotels in Christchurch, and in some the accommodation was so bad that ho was considering the question of condemning certain premises. Complaints had been made to the committee of travellers being refused meals because they asked for them after tho schedule time. The chairman pointed out that the licensees were also innkeepers, and were , bound to supply meals at any time of the ‘day or night, and must also provide accommodation for travellers as long as it was available, Tho penalties tor non-complianoo with the law ’ were very heavy. The health officer’s report recommelded certain alterations to the bars and premises of n number of hotels, sohe of which, the chairman staled, were beyond the jurisdiction of the committee. The committee adjourned for a fortnight, the chairman stating that all tho licensees who are lessees must produce a statement showing any encumbrances on their leases.
