An inquiry was hold at Christchurch on Snndn-v into the cause of the death of Mrs M. T. 'Williams, a widow, who died suddenly on Friday. T). T. Holloway. nephew of tho deceased, at whoso residence deceased had been residing foi some time past, stated that he had purchased pressed beef on Thursday for thi evening meal. Witness, his mother, bis wife and child, and deceased all partook of the moat, and he and his wife and deceased were taken ill. but not the others. As deceased appeared to become worse, medical aid was obtained. Dr. Mickle gave evidence that death was due to ptomaine poisoning. He reported the case to the District Health Officer.- Dr. Widdowson. who made a post-mortem examination, tald. In Ms opinion, death was due ..to ptomaine poisoning. The inquest was adjourned till Juno 6th. to enable the remaining portion of the pressed beef to bo analysed by tho Government Analyst.
