Mr Albert Goldie, a former Australian journalist, arrived by the Niagara, bringing a letter from the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, bearing an invitation to similar organisations in New Zealand to co-operate in establishing direct steamship communication between Los Angeles and ports of Australia and Now Zealand, with an interchange of products, Hie Los Angeles" Harbour ‘Board appointed Mr Goldie special commissioner to investigate the possibility of securing sufficient- cargoes to justify a regular service between the ports mentioned.
