CONERENCE CONCLUDES
VARIOUS REAIITS ADOPTED;

Remits were adopted urging the Government to provide a more adequate-staff to deal with the inspection nnd'purcliase oT land fox* soldier settlements. Itciruts vrer© carried entering a strong protest against the Government interference since hostilities ceased. - - - Remits that special inducements should he offered to qualified men to take up the teaching profession in the State schools, and that better facilities b® given to backMdck*’ seftlers for get. ting schools and good teacher*, were adopted. Remits were"carried dealing ■with the necessity for providing hotter financial provision for settlers to develop their holdingys. and included a recommendation that the Government ho urged to veto largo-sums to the Advances to Settlers Department and that a State Agricultural Bank should bo established by tho Government.^ A remit by the provincial executive expressing dissatisfaction with railway administration and emphasising that tho Government should adopt, a _ more progressive policy both with regard to pushing on of new railway!! and the adoption of more up-to-date methods of administration so that the needs and conveniences of the public should receive more consideration, was'adopted.' A remit passed at* last conference that farmers should own their own ships and eventually 1 dispose'of l their own produce was reaffirmed. Remits dealing with tho menace of tho -Meat Trust were adopted as follow:
That in view of the meat trust menace it shall be illegal for anv freezing works to be sold except with the sanction, of the Government, the sanction for sale to bo given only .after it is proved that the-purchaser is in'no way acting for, or connected with, a meat trust, the onus of proof to rest upon the purchaser. That the Government be requested to see that legislation is provided at nest session of Parliament on the seven heads as Parliamentary Committee, m Jtq keep meat and shipping trusts from operating in New Zealand. The conference also carried a remit that the Government be urged to demand a requisition 'of New "Zealand produce at ns early a date as possible. Mr J. Boddie was reflected, president. '
