In the Eastern Transvaal is a sheet of water known as Lake Chrissie. From the earliest days of Dutch settlement there was a prophecy that, if this lake ewer ran dry, the Boers would lose their independence. To- ! wards' the end of the South African war, Lake Chrissie, for the first time on record, became completely dry, hut soon after , the declaration of peace; resumed it* normal appearance.
Loch Lomond, for the first time in 24 year*, has been, frozen over, from Bnlloch Pier to Inch Human Island, a distance of about three and a-ialf miles.
White , wedding dresses are comparatively modern. During the - middle ages crimson was the bridal colour.
