HOROWHENUA NOTES
(Prom. Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, May 28. The heaviest fall of snow experienced on this side of the Tararuas this winter occurred yesterday, and the low-lying hills and adjacent flats are well covered. Tho'hisih hills have a thick coating. Mr James Gillerlene. an old-age pensioner, is now an inmate of the Otaki Hospital, suffering from severe injuries to his head and side. It is thought that he was attacked by some one. Sergt. A. R. Rudkiri (M.M.), has been appointed temporary headmaster at tho Otaki State School. Mr W. B. Smith being at present indisposed. Wild pigs are plentiful on the Tararuas. and the snow has been tho means of driving them to the flats. The gorge settlers have , recently captured one or two. "Captain'Cooks." ■
