The imutaka will subsequently load in New Zealand for* London. “ POET HACKING AT LONDON. The C. and D. Line has received cable advice that the steamer Port Hacking arrived at London on May 15th from Wellington via Bombay and Sue*. The voyage days. AUCKLAND. She Tis a three-masted vessel ot 337 tons, bqilt during the war at Halifax. Her maiden trip was made from the latter port to Sydney, via the Panama Canal, with a cargo of paper. Later she loaded superphosphates, and sailed from Newcastle on May 7th for Auckland. The voyage over tho Tasman Sea was not without incident, except that on Sunday morning a heavy squall was encountered, and it was while diving about in the same that the mizzen boom was carried away. Tho London "Gazette," of March C4th. contains an Order-in-Counoil providing for the insertion in tho Defence of the Realm Regulations of a new regulation (No. 87 D), the substance of which is that no person, unless specially authorised by the Admiralty or Board of Trade, shall act as master or person in charge of a British merchant shin unless he is a natural-born British subject, and the son of parents both of whom at the time of his birth were either natural-born British subjects or British subjects by naturalisation. NGAKUTA FOR SYDNEY. The Blackball Co.’s collier Ngakuta was to leave Greymouth yesterday for Sydney and Newcastle. At tho lastmentioned port the vessel will load coal for Lyttelton. While , In Australia the Ngakuta will have a wireless equipment installed. THE LUCKY PERTH. The Australian steamer Perth, which is at present discharging a cargo of Newcastle coal at Dunedin, has been a very lucky vessel, in so far as sickness amongst her, crew :is .concerned.. During tho height of the influenza epidemic in New Zealand in November'laßt tha vessel was at Wellington, and although she was hero for. 18 days not one ease 00-vurred -vurred amongst the «rew. She them went to Greymouth,. and was one of . the few " ships to 'ho clear of tho malady at that port. After loading a cargo of timber at Greymouth she proceeded to" Sydney. and arrived there with a email hill or health. ‘ The Sydney port health authorities. on boarding the ship, -remarked on tho fact that it was very exceptional 1 for a vessel to arrive from New Zealand
at that time without one single case or sickness on hoard. The Perth brought 19C0 tons of coal for discharge at Dunedin. On completion of discharge she will go to Mercury Bay and Gpua (Bay of Islands) to load timber for Sydney. Captain D. MacDonald has the following officers Chief, Mr F. Woolcott; second, Mr J. The auxiliarv schooner Hula arrived at Lyttelton on Monday Lem Vveamyton with part cargo of trorr Melbourne to discharge at the Canterbury port. From Lyttelton the vessel will proceed to Dunedin and will discharge a largo quantity ot explosives in the lowar harbour, after which she will berth at Dunedin to load a full cargo of chaff and bar iron for Auckland. BARBNTSZ TAKES PASSENGERS. The Dutch passenger steamer Barents*. which brought a cargo of sugar to Auckland from Java, sailed for Melbourne at U) o’clock on Saturday night. Being the first passenger steamer to leave Auckland for Australia for some time, a number of people took advantage of the chance to travel by the vessel. It is very unusual for a foreign steamer to trade between New Zealand and Australia. but the result of the Barentsz’s voyage should prove satisfactory. She is on her wav to Australia to load for Europe, and was able to add to her earnings by taking 5S saloon passengers and between 590 and 690 tons of general cargo, as well as a Targe quantity of limber from , Auckland for Melbourne. This side-line' wll go a long way towards paying the vessel’s expenses for the voyage. The Barents* took the following passengers;—Saloon: Misses Qodlee. The Royal Mail steamer Niagara, on route from Vancouver to Auckland, via ports, was due at Suva on Monday and Is 'expected at Auckland to-morrow. No advice has been received about Ihe movements of the vessel. The Union Company so far has not announced Urn vessel’s itinerary after she reaches Auckland. She is advertised to sail from Auckland for Vancouver on June 10th, but the company has not so far advertised her to sail from Auckland for Sydney. It is expected that the company will on-, mounce the vessel's future movements shortly. - lONIC SAILS NOON FRIDAY. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Co. advise that the heavy rain yesterday delayed the loading of tho liner lonic, and consequently her departure from Wellington for London via Panama has been Partner postponed till noon on Friday, MANUK AIT BAR SHOAL.
