SHOCKING FATALITY
COLLISION WITH TRAIN ONE OHECD KILLED AND TWO SEVERELY INJURED, Frees Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, May K. A fatal accident occurred at Bunny* thorpe railway crossing this-afternoon. A spring cart, driven by Ronald Pederson, son of a farmer at, Robert’s Line, was crossing the line when the new Plymouth train collided with it. The horse was killed instantaneously end the bart completely wrecked. Jean, the youngest child, aged eight, was decapitated; Alex, aged fourteen, had his skull fractured and left leg fractured and nearly severed; Ronald, aged thirteen, had his skull injured and thumb- fractured; and Phyllis, aged fourteen, was thrown ■ dear.; Alex is not expected to recover. The crossing is an open one, and haa a full view.
The engine-driver says that Be blew bis whistle, and the children tried to back the horse off the line, but were too late.
