SHORTAGE OF MINERS
SCHEME TO MAKE WORK MORE ATTRACTIVE.
Press Association,
INVERCARGILL, May 23. Speaking to a reporter, Sir James Allen stated that the Government will shortly make public details of a scheme for making miners' work more attractive. Since the Armistice a number of men had left work in the mines and it was now necessary to encourage the men to take up mining work to maintain the output. Ho added that though it was hoped to tide over the present coal shortage it might be necessary to still further restrict the train services.
