MASTERTOX, May 22, The members of the Masterton branch of the Church of England’s Men's Society entertained the Kcv. I). B. Ashcraft at a welcome home social last evening. Though the rain has benefited the pastures, hard frosts—the first of which after the rain was experienced this morning—will retard the growth of grass. The rain has come too late to a.'i.nre of a good winter supply of feed. The price of stock is expected to remain low till well into the spring. Skilled labour is still srarcc throughout the district, though there is a fair amount of unskilled casual labour available.
Tho Wairarapa Racing Club has paid the Government £l3Ol taxation in connection with its recent meeting. The Wairarapa Rugby Union’s senior fixtures on Saturday are:—Red Star v. Gladstone, at Mastcrton; Camp v. Dalefield, at Carterton.
