Press' Association. '"" > NAPIER, May 22,
At the Napier Chamber of Commerce meeting to-day, on the motion of Mr A. Kohn, it was decided that,_ in the opinion of the chamber, the time had arrived for a universal half-holiday for the whole of the Dominion. It was resolved to solicit the support of members of Parliament and other chambers on the question. .The Auckland Railway League suggested that the chamber should cooperate in the direction of securing ex* '.ended railway services throughout the forth Island, with concrete roads as eeders. A letter suggested that the ■me had arrived for the North Island o secure more favourable treatment in the matter of railway extension. The chairman said the movement should have the sympathy of the chamber, and that, the president of the league should visit Napier on his proposed tour for the purpose of enlisting sympathy. The chairman and Messrs S. McLernon, C. H. Gould, and C. Douglas were appointed a committee to arrange with other bodies for the tour mentioned in the Auckland league’s letter, and it was further decided that it was desirable that the East Coast railway between Napier and Gisborne should be completed as soon as possible.
