HOSPITAL MATTERS

MEETING OP THE- BOARD. A meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday afternoon. The*'following ‘ were present: Messrs F. Castle (chairman), C. H. Chapman, J. Hutchison,- J.. W. Moßwan, F. T. Moore,'G.J.Petheriek, J. Smith, W. J,,Thompson,:Rev. Dr J. K. Elliott,.,,Rev. Van Stavcren, Megdames Aitken, —Beck,-. McVioar,and Snow. , ■ The chairman said that Mr H. Baldwin had resigned his. seat on the board, and he moved: that the resignation be received with'xregret. - Mr Hutchison said® he *'objected’ to the word “regret” being - put in the motion, and he moved that it be deleted. Ho considered that Mr Baldwin’s resignation was the result of his not being®e3ected again to ; the chair. The Rev. Van’ -Staveren-said that the resignation was the' outcome of spleen. ‘ -

Mrs Beck, in seconding the amendment, said that a member should abide by the decision of the majority, and help to the best of his ability.

The Rev. Dr Elliott trusted the amendment would noh-be—carried-- It was a free country; —and“ - a' member of the hoard had-, a .perfect - right, to, resign if he so desired. The chairman said he hoped the mover of the amendment and the seconder would withdraw it, as it was advisable that the personal element should be kept out of the board’s discussions.

Mr Moßwan said that it was the usual custom to receive a resignation with regret. Mr 'Baldwin--had 7 done good work. " The original motion was carried, and, on the suggestion of Mr Chapman, the words “regrets that his services are not avilablo' to t the board” were added. . ' 1, . Sigter Hooker who , has, been, in charge of the Nurses’ Home, forwarded her resignation; and did not furnish a reason for doing so. Mr Hutchison said the ‘lady''Should "be" ' invited to give hef reasons" in Writing. Ho suggested that there was' something behind the resignation.

The Rev. Dr Elliott said that Sister Hooker had the confidence of the board, arid was a valued servant. It was decided to carry out Mr Hutchison’s suggestion.
