CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. Tho Carpentaria, with 577 troops on board, arrived in the harbour ati 8.15 o’clock last night, and berthed early this morning, being a clean ship. There was practically no sickness throughout tho voyage. Tho trip was uneventful. There were no soldiers’ wives on board. Tho only mail brought was one bag from Colon for Wellington. The Carpentaria’s southern draft totalling about 200 will go south by tomorrow’s express and the North Islanders by to-morrow’s ferry steamer. DEVON DELAYED. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. The Devon will not arrive to-morrow, as previously reported. The local agents stated this morning that the vessel will not leave Sydney until May 23rd.
