TROOPS AND STRIKES

Questions in the House of Commons revealed the information that a confidential circular was issued when the rtylway, transport, and mining strikes were threatened, requesting the commanding officers to report as to whether their troops were prepared to assist in strike-breaking; also to what degree trade union sentiment existed. Captain F. E. Guest, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury, stated that it bad never been intended to use soldiers in ordinary strikes, but ou that occasion the country was faced with paralysis.
