THE DOMINION CONFEPJ3NOE
The Dominion Town-planning Conference, which is to be held in Wellington next week, is to be opened at 10 o clock on Tuesday morning by the GovernorGeneral, the Earl of Liverpool. After His Excellency lias declared the conference open, the Acting-Prime Minister will welcome the delegates on behajt of the Government and briefly address them. The Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke, C.M.G.. M.P.) will then extend a welcome to the delegates on behalf of the city; after which the presidential address will be delivered by the Minister for Internal Affairs and Public Health (the Hon G. W. Russell). The necessary committees will then be set up for the purpose of reporting upon various (aspects of the work of the conference. The opening potion of the conference will follow, the Miayoi of Wellington presiding, and an address will be given by Mr G. P. Martin, officer in charge of Local Government in the Internal Affairs Department, on "Existing Legislation and the Town-iplanning Legislation Proposed." A second address on "Town-planning Legislation" will he delivered by Mr H F von Haast. The selected speak era are:—Mr C. J. Parr, M.P., the Hon. G. Fowlds, the Hon. J. T. Paul, Dr. Newman, M.P., Mr T. F. Martin (solicitor to the, Municipal Conference,, and Mt H. R. Smith (town clerk, Christchurch). . The afternoon session will begin at 2.15, and, after the conclusion of the discussion on town-planning legislation. Dr. Frengley, deputy-chief health officer, will read a paper entitled, "Health and Well-being of the People in Uespeotto Climate and Soils, Their Homes and Environment." This will be spoken to by Dr.. Hector, Dr. Geisen, and Alesdames A. Gray and Irwin. In the evening a short _ address will bo delivered by the president of the conference,' land during ttio evening a continuous picture exhibition on the various phases of town-planning with "cinema" films of Continental cities will he given. A musical programme! will also be submitted by am orchestra organised by Mr H. Tombs. The wholp of the Town Hall will be occupied with plans and exhibits connected with tho work of the conference, and admission will be free.
