The Mining Conference opened here to-day. The Ministe,r for Mines (Hon. \V. 1). S. MacDonald) arrived from Greymonth to be present at the gathering, which is being attended by rcpreaentatlvea from all parts of the district.- "The Minister will he entertained at luncheon at. noon, and turns on the water to the new goldfield opened by the Westland Prospecting Syndicate, near Lake Kanieri, to-morrow, /fftorwardi he takes public deputations, and on Friday visits Ross. On Saturday he proceeds to Christchurch, passing through the Otira tunnel to Arthur’s Psjss
