YESTERDAY’S PROCEEDINGS,

The sitting of the Magistrate’s Court yesterdav was presided oger by Mr J. \V. Ellison and Captain Hennah, J.P.’s Donald McDonald, who was charged with. insohr.et\. and with breaking nu» prohibition order, was sent to prison tor seven days on the first count, and remanded for a week on the second. Wiliam Johnston, a member of the area- of the Tamm, was charged withstealing a case containing spectacles, Acting-Sub-Inspector Emerson said that Johnston and some companions went to Island Bay on Monday night. Accused had been drinking, and when at Island Bay he got separated from his friends. He . evidently wandered into the house of. Mr Erie Campbell, and was seen copiing down the stairs in a drupken condition. -Johnston was arrested, and the stolen articles, which wore valued at £l. were found on him. The accused stated that ho had been on a drunken spree and had no recollection of steal.ng anything. He was convicted and fined 10s, in default 4t nours' imprisonment, and is to be placed on board his vessel before she sails.

Horace Benjamin Martin, who appeared on remand charged with an unnatural offence, pleaded hot guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
