At a meeting of the Westland County Council, last evening, strong comment was passed on the inimical effect of the timber regulations as affecting the sawmiiling industry throughout Westland. It was plainly stated that tho industry stood m grave danger If the timber lands were handed over, as proposed, to the Forestry Department. It was resolved to invite the Minister for Lands to visit tho district as early aa possible to confer with the council regarding the restrictive nature of the regulations as affecting milling and aettlcmei(j. The council also desire* to review the position of scenic reserves, which are blocking settlement and the mining industry in Westland County.
