...The R?v - Father Duignan, S.M., of the Thorndon parish, is at present staying on Somes Island attending to the spiritual needs of the t'atholes making an enforced stay there in consequence of the quarantine regulations.
The Rev. Fathers Ainsworth and McCarthy, S.M., who have been conducting a • two weeks' "mission at St. Joseph's Church, street, will next visit Gisborne, where they will open a mission on the 21st inst, at St.' Marv's Church.
Mr J. F. Andrews, secretary to the Executive Council and Cabinet, has resigned after very many years, of faithful service to the State. Mr' Andrews has been in .indifferent health for some time. He was born at Auckland in IS*B, being a son of tho late Dr H. J. Andrews, and entered the public service in-1879. -He has been private secretary to two Prime .Ministers (the late Mr John Ballanee and the late Mr R. J. Seddon), and also for a time private secretary to Lord Onslow when he was Governor of New Zealand. Some vears ago he was appointed secretary to*' the Executive Council and the Cabinet, which office he filled up to th crime of his retirement. The announcement of Mr Andrews's retirement will be received with keen regret by all who were associated with him in the service.
The resignation is announced ■of Mr Leonard ' Stowe, clerk of Parliament, clerk of the Legislative Council, and examiner oLStahdinß Orders and Private Bills. ■ Mr Stowe. who is one of the oldest officials in thepuhlic. service, Teas bom nt Trolly Hall. Buckingham. England, and is an "old boy" e-f R.ncrhy School. Tie came to Now Zealand' in the shin Lady Ailice, in 1859. and nfte»rao years of station life, was appointed secretary to the Superintendent of the Province of- Marlborough. Later hi' was clerk to the Provincial Council of Marlborough, and, in ISP>S was Bpvojnbxl il<"rk of the Legislative Council.' In 1889. he ' was . sriven the additional appointment of clerk of Parliament which nosition he has held ever since. Mr Stowe has not been in pood health far some time past. His retirement will bo keenly by tho?e who have been • Jjroiißht into contact with him. His courteous and ceninl manner has won him a host of friends.
