Smith, purser of the Maheno, is on a visit to Wellington. He will leave for Dunedin on Monday. The Ngatoro, which left Wellington yesterday for Greymouth, is due back here on Tuesday with bunker coal for 'tbe Kaikoura.

Mr E. G. F. Zohxab advises that the Stella is to leave Wellington on Monday for Dunedin, instead of to-day. Cargo will be received up till 11 a.m. on Monday. Mr P. Neville, second engineer of the Ngatoro, has come ashore at Wellington.

The Kamo is to leave Greymouth shortly with a load of timber for Wellington and Lyttelton. The Baden Powell is now expected back at Wellington to-morrow from New Plymouth, and an effort will be made to dispatch the vessel on the return trip on Monday. The steel. shelter-deck standard steamer War Bastion has been purchased by the Union Company. Sho is 5900 tons gross, built at Newcastle in 1913 by the ■Northumberland Shipbuilding Company, Ltd., class 100 A 1 Lloyd's, engines 27, 45, and 75 by 54in stroke, carries about SIAM) tons dead weight on 26ft 4in draught. The Patrick Henderson liner Bhamo has been added to the Shaw, Savin .and Albion Company's passenger sailings, and is timed to sail from Wellington about May 27th for London via Suez. This vessel will carry saloon passengers only. The Bhamo, which is a fine stamp of vessel, is now discharging cargo from Glasgow at Port Chalmers. KIA OEA, POE WELLINGTON. The Shaw-Saviil and Albion liner Kia Ora, now discharging cargo from London ah Lyttelton, is duo at Wellington next Tuesday or W ednesday to put out the remainder. Yrom Wellington tho vessel will proceed for Homeward loading to Lyttelton, Dunedin, Now Plymouth, Waitara, Wanganui, and back to Wellington. NELSON WHAEVES CONTROL. The control of the wharves at Kelson has engaged the attention of tho Nelson Harbour Board for soma years past. At a meeting of the board this week the chairman (Mr Duncan) said that the board-must consider whether at the end of the three months it would take over the management and control of tho wharves, or ask tho Enihvay Department to continue to carry on on the basis of 21 per cent, commission. If they could bo sure of efficient management ho was inclined to think tho hoard should carry on itself. Shunting would have to bo arranged for, an efficient wharfinger would be required, also, foremen, a clerk, and a junior. In other places the Boilwav’ Department worked the wharves, but the conditions were not quite the same. Mr Duncan also referred to the petition that Murchison bo brought into the Nelson harbour area. Murchison used the nort. and ■ should pay a [portion of the harbour expenses. The board would have to consider when the petition should bo presented to Parliament. Mr Washbourn moved that a sub-com-mittee, consisting of tho chairman, Messrs AHoort. Hamilton, Gould, and tho mover, consider a scheme of wharf management. MOANA LEFT 'FRISCO. The Union Company lias received nablo advice that the R.Ivl.S. Moaua left Sau Francisco on May 4th for Wellington via Papeete and Rarotonga. The vessel is due at Wellington on May £Sth. She is lixed to sail from Wellington on the return trip to San Francisco on June 3rd. BONA FROM MONTREAL. The Christchurch office of the New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised that the steamer Rona is on the loading berth at Montreal, and is expected to sail about the middle of this month for New Zealand ports. WESTRALIA SAILS TO-NIGHT. Owing to the cessation of cargo handling operations on the , Wellington wharves this morning to permit of a meetiiig being held by the watersiders. it has been found necessary to postpone tbe departure of the Westralia from Wellington until 7 o’clock this evening lor Melbourne via southern ports. The vessel is expected to leave Bluff on Thursday for Melbourne. WHAKATANE DISCHARGING. The liner Whakatane arrived at Wellington at 8.35 a.m. yesterday from Now York via Panama and Auckland, and berthed at the Taranaki street wharf to put out about 3000 tons of cargo. The vessel is expected to sail next Friday or Saturday for Lyttelton and Dunedin with remainder of cargo. BUOY~NOT MISSING. The Naval Department advises the Marine Department that the former’s previous announcement that one of the buoys marking the minefield off Farewell Spit was missing was incorrect. The buoy is in its proper place. MANUKA SAILS WEDNESDAY. The Union Co. has fixed the Manuka to sail from Wellington for Sydney at noon on Wednesday next, taking passengers uud cargo as usual. The vessel is to berth on Monday morning to discharge. TERPSICHORE) FOR LONDON. fha New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the sailing ship Terpsichore, which is discharging New York cargo at Wellington, is to load at this port for London. KAIKOURA DELAYED. The New Zealand Shipping Co. advises that the Kaikoura has been delayed in loading at Tokomaru Bay, and consequently will not arrive at Wellington until Tuesday morning. The vessel is now timed to sail from Wellington next Saturday for London via Panama. EEMUERA DUE TO-MORROW. The Remuera, ea route from London, left Auckland at 6.30 a.m. yesterday for Wellington, where she is due to-morrow morning.
