The case against a local Chinese merchant, Ssi Laurie, of having aided and abetted the smuggling into New Zealand 'of turn prohibited Chinamen was concluded to-day. A conviction was entered, andi fines of £2O on each of two charges were imposed, with £8 I2s costs. Security of appeal was fixed at fifteen guineas.
