SKETCH EXHIBITION
ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS.
i The steadily-increasing number of visitors to the Art- Gallery in Whitmore street and the continual advance in sales of the sketches on view are evidence of an appreciation -which must be gratifying to the artists exhibiting. In an exhibition of the kind there may bo ample room for criticism, but trim one thing more than any other to be noted is the sincerity with which each worker has sought to master the difficulties of the problem attacked.
The water-colour and oil sketches now being shown will repay a lengthy visit. Over four hundred have been assembled, and, the artistic quality of the majority raise high hopes for the position New Zealand art will hold in the fixture.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., and in the evening from 7.30' to 9.30 o'olock. The admission, Is, includes a ticket in the art union to be drawn on Saturday next.
