RUGBY FOOTBALL
MEETING OF GOAIArXTTEE. A meeting of the "Rugby Football TJn'irm Management Committee was held last evening. The delegates present were: Messrs W, F. Hoxnig (chairman), J. N. Millard, A- J- Griffiths. W. W- Cook, E. II Ward, J. Lundon. N- Pern; G. Jackson, J. I'nmderille, H. Buck, and T. JI. Jones (secretarv)The question of arranging a suitable memorial to the late Mr X). D. Weir was discussed. Several suggestions were made, including the erection of a headstone over ths grave of the deceased and a fountain at Athletic Park as a mark of appreciation of his valuable services in the interests of Busby lootball. It was decided to requisition ike various clubs for subscriptions. Provided sufficient funds are available each -uggestion is to be carried out. T. K. Brookes, who was ordered off the field by the referee during the Wellinc-ton-Old Boys game at the Athletic Park for striking a player, attended and explained that he had no recollection of having offended. If he had done so, he desired to apologise to the committee for his action.—The referee had failed to furnish a report on the case, and the committee could not deal with it in the circumstances" On the motion of Mr Griffiths it was decided to allow Brookes to play until such time as a report is forwarded by the referee. It was decided to present a football to the Upper Hutt School. An application made by B. Knapp. a' member of the Athletic Club, for re-in-statement was refused. .. The applicant was suspended till the end of the 1819 season for desiring to fiht a referee during a match in 1918.
Mr B. H. Ward applied, on behalf of the Schools' Union, for permission to play a schools* matoh each Saturday as a curtain-raiser at Athletic Park.—The application was granted, and it was decided to allow the boys to practice on the Park each Friday as usual. It was stated that five players were injured at lJuppa street on Saturday afternoon, one seriously. There was not a member of the St. John Ambulance present, and the committee resolved to ash for the services of one man each Saturday. The promptness with which rererees furnished their reports on Saturday v.-uo favourably commented on, and it nas trusted that the practice would oonttnne. The Hutt Club applied for permission to withdraw from the senior competition as esveral members, who had expressed their willingness to play, had failed to do bo when requested.—The application was grantea. Permission was granted the Selwyn Club to withdraw its junior team from the competition, and the Railway Battalion to withdraw from the fourth-class contest.
Mr J. Prenderville reported having interviewed Mr R. YV". McVilley, General Manager of Railways, in regard to the provision of a train for players engaged in matches in the R/utt Valley, with the result that Mr McVTOy had virtually consented to provide a train leaving Lambton etation at 2.15 o'clock each Saturday afternoon. Tho service will be inaugurated on Saturday week. SENIOR FIXTURES. The following are the senior fixtures for Saturday:— Wellington v. Petone, Athletic Park, No. 1 (Dr A. F. R. Crawford). University v. Ponoke. Athletic Park, No. 2 (Mr A. H. Roberts). Selwyn v. Atretic, Duppa street (Mr L. Simpson). Oriental v. Old Boys, Duppa street (Mr J. S. Kiag). On Saturday week tiro following games will be played:— Atheltic v. Poneke, Athletic Park. No. l. Selwyn v. Oriental, Athletic Park,'No. .2. Wellington v. University, Duppa street. Old Boys v. Petone, at Petone.
