Tho average price per acrei of tho Davies estate (940 acres), sold last week, was £52 13s, Tho shooting season, which opened on Thursday, provided fair sport only. Many sportsmen returned with empty bags. Stock sales in Eovin aro to bo held fortnightly instead of weekly for tho next three months.

Captain P. Tahiwi loft to-day for Rotorua, where ho will spend a few weeks’ holiday.
At a public meeting at Mauakau on Friday it was decided not to join with Otaki in celebrating peace, but to hold a picnic and sports gathering at their own township. Otaki is making big preparations for tho event, and is being assisted by tho To Horo and Waihoanga Schools. Tho Rev. KnowlesSmilh (Wellington) and Mr W. HField, M.P., will bo present to deliver speeches. Dr Huthwaitc, who has been indisposed, is making good progress, and hopes to bo about this week. Lieutenant N. F. Chamberlain, formerly of Otaki, is at present on holiday here
it is understood tliat a meeting of tho Otaln Town Board will bo held shortly to consider the mattoi of a high-pressure water supply. A. loan of £9(iCO was carried for electric light four years ago, but the outbreak of war prevented the borrowing of money. Mr Byron Brown (chairman) during the past four weeks, has endeavoured to secure tho amount, but has failed.
