ARRANGEMENTS WADE

PROGRESS REPORTS BY VARIOUS COMMITTEES.

Tho Wellington Peace Celebrations Committee met last evening. Mr IV. H. P, Barber presided. The chairman of tho sports committee reported that they had arranged for a Rugby seven-a-side tournament (to last about 20 minutes), a “Soccer” six-a-sido tournament (33 minutes), iaaics’ hockey tournament (30 minutes), and Highland dancing. They hoped to arrange for a gymnastic display by T.M.C.A. pupils and a march past, by cadets. A display by boy scouts had been promised. They had been in communication with tho Fire Brigade, who might, be able to assist. A “spectacular display” was under consideration, hut there might be some difficulty in going through with it. The theatricals who were in tho city at the time would bo asked to assist, and if the Japanese warships there hero Ulieir men might take part. Also, the boys from tho Amokura would join in the celebrations. There would be a i'unea-.md-Judy show for the children, aid, perhaps, maypole dancing. The holding of schools championship events on the second day was under consideration. 'Die estimated expenditure was £9O, including £SO for prizes for the athletic events and £lO for the Highland events.

Mr F. Blandford reported that Messrs Robert Parker and H. Temple White had a choir of 200- voices in hand, and in a very little while there would probably be another 200.; On the Monday night the choir would sing the “Gloria” from tlie “Twelfth Mass,” the “Hallelujah Chorus,” and so on. For those who could not get into the Town Hall there would be concerts from lorries about the streets.

Mr W. Helliwell reported that there was some difficulty in securing enough bands. The matter was left to .Mr Helliwell to make the best arrangement possible, subject to the approval of the finance committee. It was resolved that the sub-commit-tee chairman, the chairman of the general committee, and Mr Herbert Wood shpuld be an executive committee.
