INTERESTING DEFENCE CASE

A QUESTION OF NATURALISATION. Pres/? AK*oaiß,tif>n. DUNEDIN, May 5. In a prosecution under the Territorial Defence Act in the Police Court, in which a youth was charged with failing to register for Senior Cadet instruction, the defence raised was that the lad was a statutory alien, his father having gone to U.S.A. in 1913 with his family, and been compelled, when ho took up land there, to become a naturalised American. Though he returned to New Zealand in 1914 ho had never taken measures to revoke this naturalisation. It was claimed that under tho laws, of England when a father became naturalised in another country the children under age by that Act became citizens of that country. Tho magistrate reserved his decision.
