AUSTRALIAN STRIKE
SEAMEN HAVE RESUMED WORK. United Press Association—Copyright MELBOURNE, October 19. The seamen have decided to resume work to-day. The Federal Premier (Mr W. M. Hughes) is summoning tho Ministers of Labour in the various States to a conference to discuss proposals to amend industrial legislation. VARIOUS INCIDENTAL MATTERS. (Received October 19, 11.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, October f 9. There was a disorderly mass meeting of wharf labourers to-night, owing to the presence of tho alien element. Free fights resulted. A motion that members of tho union should sign modified cards and return to work was defeated. A secret ballot on tho same question is proceeding. Tho street collections for the relief of distress amongst strikers resulted in about £3OOO being subscribed. Shipping arrangements are proceeding satisfactorily. Several vessels have already been dispatched; others follow within a few days.
