FIRE ON A STEAMER

Evidence adduced at the inquiry into the recent fire on a steamer lying at Miller’s Point indicated incendiarism, “When Harold Batten, formerly employed by the Union Company, appeared in court, charged with forging a seaman’s discharge certificate, the police stated that a quantity oi gelignite, dynamite detonators and fuses and correspondence relating to explosions on ships were found in his possession.
