SOCIAL HYGIENE BILL

To the Editor "N.Z. Times.” Sir, —I cannot understand tho attitude taken up by these women -who seem so determined to do all in their power to prevent the passing into law oi the Health Bill brought in by the Hon. Mr Kussell. 1 think he ought to be. upheld in his efforts to cope with what is a veritable menace to tho health of the community; as it seems that innocent persons can contract that horrible venereal disease by coming into contact socially with infected ones. Surely tho measures to find out and euro such n terrible disease could not. be too drastic, and should bo welcomed by every mother who has tho real good ot her children at heart. 1 may state that I am a mother and step-mother too, have brought up two families, both grown to men and women now', and I never had a qualm or fear about the O.D. Act, which seems to be such a bugbear to" these sentimentally hysterical sort of people. If a young man or woman behave themselves as they ought they need have no fear of any intexTerence on the part of tho police or any accredited officer. But if they are turning into questionable ways, tho sooner they are checked the better for thomselvos and all concerned. Indeed the very knowledge that they can be detected would have a deterrent effect on many, and keep them straight till they learn more sense, and also give heed to their inward, monitor, conscience, which always warns with no uncertain sound; but if not heeded invariably demands retribution, causing much sorrow and suffering, and hardest of all falling on the poor unfortunate unborn children, who had no voice in the matter, but are victims of circumstances over which they had no control. So I wish the Hon. hfr Russell and his bill success in passing into law, and much success in the work it is striving to do.—l am, etc., ■ LOOKING AHBAE.
