THE NEW TAXATION
To the- Editor ,r X.Z. Times.
Sir, —Mr Massey told tho deputation that interviewed him re the cost of living that he had not increased tax;fj:on upon tho workine~tlasp.es. Mr Massey’s memory is short. When he was in opposition ho said that every tax, no matter how imposed, was passed on to the working man. All the new taxes will bo borne by labour, except the “progressive land lax/' a shuffle to enable the larcro landholder to escape taxation. Tho income tax has already increased prices. The Government appoints a Board of Trad© to reduce the cost of living, and then raises it by increased taxation. A pure land value tax is tho only one that does not oppress labour and trade.—l am, etc., lOTA.
