DAME RUMOUR
AND AUSTRALIAN WHEAT CHRISTCHURCH CANARD REs FITTED IN PARLIAMENT. In Parliament yesterday afternoon Mr G. Witty, M.P. for Kiccarton, asked tho Minister for Agriculture if the rumour current in Christchurch, that tho Minister had been, offered three ships to load wheat for Now Zealand during last month, was correct, and that ho had refused tho offer for fear of trouble at his end with regard to unloadingThe Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald eaid that ho had. not had an offer of any ships at all. It was suggested that the Government might have got one of the transports to call for wheat; but, thinking that tho strike might ho at an end any day, they did not bother, because it was not advisable to ship by any ship whatever. The sacks in Australia were very poor, and they must have a suitable ship to ensure a pay* able shipment. (Hear, hear.)
