“NOT PLAYING THE GAME”
SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE METHODS. MR MASSEY AND THE MEMBER FOR GREY DIFFER. “I do say this of the Second Division League—they are not playing the game,” declared the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives last night, in speaking in the debate on the Second Division allowances. “1 don’t think it is right and fair and proper for members of the league to come to this House and dragoon members about those proposals. I can assure members of the league that the Government will do everything that is humanly possible for them and their dependents.” Such bargaining as had been going on, added Mr Massey, was not what one would expect from British men. The spirit of the 9000 married men now at the front was different. Mr Payne (Grey Lynn): “They are bartering for their lives.” Mr P. C. Webb (Grey) said that it appeared te him Hat instead of the Second Division League bludgeoning members into supporting their proposals, the Ministers were bludgeoning some members into supporting their moth. - Second Division men had as much right as anyone else to. come to Parliament and speak to members. When the Liquor Rill was on, prohibitionists flocked to Parliament, and caused a blue funk. Had not the wool kings also invaded Parliament? Mr Massey: “These are improper remarks.” Mr Wobh; “I can’t see it.”
