The following report was issued for the fortnight ended September 26th:— North Mount Lyell Mine.—7ooft level north drive extended to 14 feet through mixed schist and quartzite; 850 ft level No. 318 diamond drill bore completed at 108 ft; 925 ft level, crown drive, extended to 132 ft through mixed mineralised schist and q.uartzite; cutting off crown shaft plat at 925 ft level completed; 1000 ft level No. 317 diamond drill bore completed at 97ft; crown shaft rise reached 63ft point through chloritic schist. Reduction Works.—Two furnaces in blast during fortnight. During current half-year 2709 tons blister consigned to electrolytic works, Port Kembla, for refining. MOUNT BEAD AND ROSEBERY MINES. Operations for the' fortnight ended September 26th are repotted on as follows: Hercules Mine —No. 3 level, No. 9 mullock rise,, lifted to 93ft from floor level, through schist and slate. No. 5a Level: Work commenced at mouth of new adit. No. 5 Level: Work commenced at location of new adit entrance; commencement made with extension of old 620 ft north drive. Rosebery Mine —-Main Adit Level: North drive reached the 216 ft point and show's full face of good grade ore. No. 6 Level: North drive reached 591 ft. lode showing medium grade ore. No. 4 Level; North drive to 557 ft with ' good grade ore over full face. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries; and Commerce has receivedthe following cablegram, dated London' October 13th, 1917, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. (Notet Quotations, unless csherwise specified, are average market '■prices on spot):— Meat—Bome-killed mutton and beet 1 are in lair supply. There are small supplies of Dutch mutton and beef, chilled, at the market during this week selling at comparatively low prices owing to (mutiliated word hero); mutton, and Hid; beef, very low quality, '6d. All descriptions of frozen meat are in small supply. New Zealand mutton, per lb BJd. owe mutton BJd; Argentine mutton. Hid; New Zealand lamb, lOd; Argentine lamb. Hid; Patagonian, lOd; Argentine chilled beef, binds HJd, fores 9Jd. Butter —Butter is very scarce. No official quotations, with the exception of Paris 230 s to 2355, Argentine 2065. (Maximum prices remain unchanged,; Iwith the exception of Irish creamery, 1224 s for bulk, and rising as high as (24& 8d for half-pound packets. Cheese—iMarkot, continues firm. New Zealand, States Flats, and Australian at Government price; English cheddar, 1375. Hemp—Market remains as last reported. New Zealand, little business doing on account of freight difficulty. Manila output for two weeks ending October 6th, 40,000 bales. Wheat—Market steady at previous quotations. Oats—Spot market is steady at official quotations. WHOLESALE PRODUCE PRICES. Messrs. On Thursday we held a-clearing sale of dairy stock with usual number .of sundries, on account of Mr Samuel Peck, Pinfold road, Woodville. Despite the adverse weather conditions ruling, there was a fair attendance of buyers and a good sale resulted. There was keen competition for tho herd, which_ made the satisfactory average of £l2, individual prices being: £l6, £ls 10s, £lo ss, £l3 (2). £l2, £ll 15s, £ll 15s. £ll 10s, £H 2s 6d. £ll, £lO ss, £9 ss, £8 15s. Yearling Jersey heifers brought £4 10s, calves 21s. A large number of farm implements and sundries, were also sold at good prices. . On Friday we held, the weekly Da-n----nevirke sale in the Miller's road yards. There was a good attendance of the public, and wo quote as follows: —Mixedsex hoggets (sma-ll) from 21s 6d, ewos and Lambs from 295, store cows from £S, yearling ’ steers from »£8 9s, cows and calves ,£l2 ss. WELLINGTON CUSTOMS. The Customs revenue received at Wellington yesterday totalled £lllO 4« 7d.
