SURPRISE PACKETS

A GREAT SUCCESS. A rough estimate of tho financial results of the Commercial Travellers’ Surprise Packet scheme shows that it met with the success which tho energetic promoters desired. The proceeds total £3220, made up as follow: —Sale of envelopes, £3505; sale of goods left over, £6O; amount over and above oxpensos subscribed by members of the association, £llO. Some of the goods in tho packets had to be purchased from funds subscribed by members and their clients to cover tho cost of mileage, advertising, and printing. Even from this expenses fund, however, there is a large surplus and tho money paid for tho packets has not been touched in any way. The winners of the big prizes were as follow: —Section of land at Khandallah, Mrs Fanny Taylor, Park street, Wellington: suite of furniture, Mr L. Lindsay, 124, Britomnrt street; sewing machine, Mrs F. Lovall. 24, St. Mary street; library of 20 volumes. Miss E. Foss, care of Mrs Barraud, Lower Hrrtt- library of ten volumes. Mr L. Henretti, Wades town; trip to the Chatham; Islands, Dr Ross. Pctone. The section of land at Khandallah, which is valued at £125, was presented by Mr G. P. Mawson, of Cbilka street, for whose generosity tho Travellers express themselves as extremely grateful.
