UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING. Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 26. The annual meeting of the United Press Association was held to-day, Mr rl. Horton (chairman) presiding. Tbifty-two members attended. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted, Tne report mentioned the great increase, in the cable service and the necessity for making further provision on this bead. Several members spoke in high terms of the calibre of the service, and it was mentioned that recent visitors highly qualified to judge had expressed their admiration at the quality of the news service of the world they had found in the newspapers of this distant part of the Empire. It was also stated that the service of New Zealand news had been maintained at its usual standard. During the year close on half a million words of original cable news had been supplied to papers belonging to the association. Messrs Fenwick (“ Otago Daily Times ”) and Smith (Dunedin "Star”) were re-elected directors, and Mr Shaw was reelected auditor. An invitation from the New Plymouth Tourist Expansion League to hold th© next meeting there was accepted. The chairman was complimented on his conduct of the business during the year, and a vote of thanks was passed to him.
