EASTER CARNIVAL

LYALL BAY GALA PREPARATIONS FOR SWIM MUSH AND OTHER GAMES. A meeting of swimmers was held last jvening in the Amateur Sports Fedoration rooms in connection with the gala day that is to be held at Lyall Ray on March loth in support of the Easter Sports Carnival. Mr J. F. Atiins (chairman of the Centre) presided. Mr H. C. W. RUck reported that he was arranging for the supply of fancy costumes. ill W. G. Morpeth was elected to ■he beach committee in place of Mr R. Reid, who is unable to act. Mr H. Jeukinson was elected to the entries committee. Notification was received that the Kelburne senior and Roseneath Roy Scout troops would be attached to the swimming committee for the purposes of the carnival. The following were constituted a comic item committee: Messrs E. Levy, G. P. Hanna, A. W. Smith, H.; Jenkinson, B. Newman, C. Gamble,' T. Shields, T. J. King, G. Neal, P. Stratford, J. Stratford, W. Wilton, H. Freeth, K. Fraser, and J. Hopkirk. Messrs H. Blick, G. P. Hanna, JN.j Perry, A. W. Smith, T. Shields, and! J. F. Atkina were elected an eiecu J five committee. The following officials were appointed : Sheep weight guessing competition, Mr A. Walker; call stewards,, Messrs H. J. Levy, A. Levy, R. Pope, and H. M. Mullins; judge of series events, Mr H. W. Cooper; referee, Mr T. Ronayne; judges of the. land events, Messrs G. S. Hill, G. Sadd, B. J. Grimmett; press stewards,] Messrs W. J. O’Meara and J. S. Stevenson; treasurer, Mr H. W. Kirkwood; assistant treasurers, Messrs RO’Flaherty and H. C. W. Blick; organiser, Mr J. F. Atkins; starters, Messrs T. Brodie, 0. H. Gasqnoine, 1). Leslie, and H. Henderson; judge of tug-of-war, Mr J. Doyle; number' stewards, Messrs H. McDougall and W. C. Collins; result board, Messrs H. A. Lambert, C. T. Bell, and H. Harris; megaphonists, Messrs C. Lambert j and D. Weir. ; Dr Agnes Bennett, Dr Platts-Mills,| and Mrs J. Gibbons were added to thsf ladies’ committee. It was decided that entries for the gala close on March tfth. GROUNDS COMMITTEE. The grounds committee held a meeting last evening, when the following wore present: Mr W. H. Morton (chairman), Hon. J. E. Jenkinson, Councillor Frost, Councillor Fletcher, Messrs W. F. Ward, de Castro, H. McIntosh, W. D. Murdoch, H. P. Hanify. Captain Frandi (chairman of the physical drill committee) and Scoutmasters Edmanson, Myers, and Lloyd also attended. It was reported that the fence at Newtown Park was in hand and arrangements have, been made to have the telephone fixed. The otter of the services of the Boy Scouts was accepted, and it was decided to arrange for the utilisation of thejr services during the time jthe carnival is in progress. . , Arrangements were made to visit the grounds next Tuesday evening with a view to determining- the positions of the various side shows, marquees, etc., required in connection with the carnival and generally for the setting out of the sports area. An effort is being made to obtain the services of a troupe of Maori dancers to perform at the carnival. The Chinese residents will also be asked to assist.
