MEXICAN REVOLT
REJOICINGS OVER PEACE DECLARATION. STATEMENT BY UNITED STATES MINISTER. MEXICO CITY, February 24. The assassinations of the deposed President Madero and Vice-President Suarez have had little effect on the general rejoicings over the peace declaration. Cabinet has ordered the arrest of the military officers concerned in the affray in which Madero was killed. The United States Minister asserts that the crime occurred as the result of an attempt made by Madero’s friends to rescue him while en route to prison, where he and Suarez were being transferred on the suggestion of the United States Minister in order to secure them more comfortable quarters. Madero was shot twice in the head and Suarez was riddled hy bullets. AMERICAN TROOPS ASSEMBLED. (Received February 25, 10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 25. American troops have been ordered to be assembled at Galveston in order to embark 10,000 for intervention in Mexico, if necessary.
