February 22. Dr and Mrs Edgar, with their email daughter, arc* leaving by the Orontes, in April, on a trip to England. Mr and Airs Shrimpton have returned from a visit to Taupe. , Professor Gilray (Uunedm) is visiting his son, Ur Gilray (Napier). Mr and Mrs John Kelly (Westport) are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Jackson. Miss Gladys Nation, who has been visiting friends in Napier, after an absence of five years in Germany, returned to Pourerere this week. Mrs J. I. Cato and her eldest daughter intend leaving for England by the Lemuera next month. Mrs Sproule and family also leave for England shortly on a visit. Hr and Mrs Henley are leaving shortly for a month's holiday at Taupo. Mies Curtis (Auckland) is the guest cf Mrs S. E. McCarthy. . Mias Herrick (England) is visiting Mrs Handyside. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs Alien Gardiner in the loss of her eldest son Allen, wh ; ch occurred so soon after the death of her husband. Rev. Allen Gardiner. Mrs Glendining (Waihua Station) has returned home after a visit to Ni.pier. Mr and Mrs Aitken and family have left to reside at Feilding. Mrs Fitzherbert is visiting the south. Mrs Troutbeck is visiting Wellington. The Municipal Theatre was crowded at the performance of “Get-Rich-Quick Wallingford." by J. C. Williamson's company, on Saturday. The audience included people from as far away as Feilding, as well as from all parts of Hawke's Bay. Some of those present were: Mrs McLean (Havelock), Mrs G. D. Cornford. A largo number gathered at ths Hawke’s Bay Tennis Club’s courts on Wednesday, when a “Yankee ’ tournament was held, in which some forty ladies and gentlemen took part. The weather was perfect, and play started at 10 a.m.. proceeding continuously throughout the day. An al fresco luncheon was provided by the ladies, and afternoon tea by the club. Miss Neville and Mr Fidduck won the tournament. Among the ladies who took part were Mesdames Didsbuvy, Kennedy, Cato. Thomson, Morton. Misses Hill (3), Watt. Neill, D’Emden. Hamilton, S. Clarke. Dinwiddle, AVhiteley, Hansard, and others. The Thirty Thousand Club's big garden fete next Wednesday, at Nelson Park, promises to be a groat success. Arrangements are well in hand, and much interest is being taken in the competitions, etc.
