IRELAND & AUSTRALIA

SOCIALISTS AND FEDERALISM PARALLELS SUGGESTED BY “MORNING POST.” Bjr Teleeraph—Press Aj*ocia, tlon—Copyrlfht (Received February 21, 9.10 p.m.) LONDON, February 21. Commenting on the curious fact that the British Socialists are supporting Federalism for Ireland, the “Morning Post” says that owing to the Socialists’ power in the Commonwealth, certain State Governments' find themselves tied hand and foot by States which refuse to accept Socialism. Consequently Australian Socialists are clamouring for unification. Mr Fisher made a whole-hearted denunciation of the federal system when he -called the Australian Constitution the worst in the world. Such an opinion is in accord with the whole policy of Mr Fisher’s Government. If their reforms are accepted Home Rule must be abolished, as' centralisation is a necessary preliminary to Socialism. The agitation in favour of fixing wages and the prices of commodities has forced the Government upon a cycle of preposterous interference which must end! in failure and disillusionment.
