ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
MAN KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR CAR. AND DIES IN HOSPITAL. About 8 o’clock last night as a motor car belonging to Mrs Nightingale was proceeding down Willis street, the wheel skidded and the car struck an elderly man, an Italian named Guiseppo Pisano, who was crossing the roadway. Pisano was knocked down and so severely shaken that it was necessary to remove him to tho hospital. Ho was there tound to be suffering very much from shock. Pisano never regained consciousness, and died at 10 o’clock. A carpenter working on a building at Northland, Frank Tiohe, fell from a scaffold yesterday for a distance ol about twenty feet, and broke one of his arms. Ho had to be removed to tho hospital. One of the painters engaged in the renovation of Messrs Whitcombo and Tombs’ Lambton quay building was severely bruised yesterday morning by a fall from the second on to tho first floor. His name is John Russell, and he resides at 122, Vivian street. 11c was working by an open trap-door and, when moving his position, stepped through the opening and foil nearly 20 feet. Fortunately tho trap-door on the first floor was closed or ho -would have fallen right through to the ground. He was at once taken to the hospital, where it was found that he was severely bruised. Press Association, DUNEDIN, February 21. Joseph Wright, aged sixty, night, porter at tho Excelsior Hotel, was fate ally injured this morning by falling off a ladder. Apparently he had been attempting to remove boxes off a roof at the rear of tho building and slipped. Ho expired a few minutes after the accident. He leaves a widow.
