SOLDIERS’ CHORUS WINS THE BIG
EVENT. Press Association. DUNEDIN, February 20. The Dunedin Jockey Club's autumn meeting was continued to-day in fine but dull weather* The attendance was not so good as on the opening day, but the totalisator investments amounted to £13,124 10s as against £10,219 10s on the corresponding day last year. At the start Bed wing showed th© way W Bifle Eange and Bed Earl, who was nearly down at th© second fence. Bedwing led past the stand with Bed Bail next, but Warsaw come up. and at the entrance to the back was leading Bed Earl, with the others handy, excepting Simon Pure. Passing the five furlongs St. Kevin took second place, and a furlong further on St. Kevin and Warsaw cleared out from th© rest and ran home in company. St. Kevin winning by a neck. From a good start Editah waa first away in front of Mere, but Bulletin and Optimiionu ’ quickly supplanted the latter, and went on behind' Editah. Two furlongs from homo Bulletin went in pursuit of Editah, and they came into the Straight together. Triumphator came with a good run and the. throe wer© separated only by necks at the finish. .. My Lawyer jumping away with the lead with the others strung out. Thistledown being last. After going a' furlong Garaid Dileas took Second place to My Lawyer, but a couple of furlongs further on. My Lawyer fell out, and Gapon lay second to Caraid Dileas. The latter ddopped away on the hill, leaving Gapon in charge, but Soldiers' Chorus got to him two furlongs from home, and the pair turned into the straight together. Tannhauser made a good run into the straight but never looked like getting up, and Soldiers' Chorus won easily by two lengths from Gapon, who was half a length in front of Tannhauser. After going a furlong Fender lost her place, and the other pair went oh. In the straight Warstop had a slight advantage and had the race fairly in hand at the distance, winning by a length; Binaldo being a length and a quarter away. Time, Imin, 4 l-seeo. IVcwn a splendid start Champagne, Safety Pin, and Pleasure Bent were first to become prominent, with Tympau close behind. At the foot of the straight Champagne was momentarily in front, but Pleasure Bent and Britain Crown ran past him, and at th© distance Thrax made his run. Hasdolt’s Sister Eadins’. 7 (B. g Also started—2 Pilgrim's Way 8.13, 5 Sea King 8.6, 4 Kostrona 7-12, 7 Lupulite 7.8, Query, Lupulite, and Sea King were the smartest to begin, and at the far turn 'Sister Badius moved into third place, Kostroma bringing up the rear. Approaching the turn Pilgrim’* Way moved np a little, and at the turn for' home Lupulite and Sea King were running just clear of the four others, who were in .line, with Kostroma still in the rear. .Inside the distance Specialform took charge, but in the last forty or fifty yards Query put in a strong run, and won by a short head. couple of strides. Aye Ay© led round the trun, where United Sendee dropped back three lengths. Ogier landed in the straight a length in front of Aye Aye, with United Service improving his position, and in tie run home won comfortably by two lengths, with Aye Aye fifteen lengths away. The field got away well together. Rock Perry showing the way round tie far turn. When tie field straightened along the back the order was Rock Perry, Waikehua, and King Torrent, but Mu mura. shot up going past the six furlong post. Gnome at this stage had dropped back several lengths. At the far turn Mumura and Rock Perry were two lengths clear of King Torrent and San Severe. Waikehua and Mumura were in front as they turned for home, but here San Severe improved her position, and King Torrent dropped back before reaching the straight. At the distance San Severe took charge and won by a long neck from Waikehua, with King Torrent a neck away third. Time, Imin 44000. WEIGHTS POE THIRD BAT.
