CONCLUDING DAY. Press Association. WOODVILLE, February 20. The weather was again delightful for the second day's racingof th ® villa District Jockey Clubs autumn meeting. The attendance, although not quite as large as the day before, was satisfactory. Speculation ■ was brisk, the sum of £10,094 tiie totalizator, making for the meeting, which is £1563 nwye than last year. Master Achilles 7.3, Yankee Doodle 7.3, the Diver 7, Martlet 7, Mfcmaid 7.' A good race. Artificial and Sylvia May led into the straight, and- then- the placed horses came through, with Handsome Maid in the lead. A desperate finish concluded • in favour of Handsome Maid by half a length, with a head separating the other two. Time, Imin 2 3-ssec. SECOND HACK HURDLES, one mile and a half.—Kauroa,' 10.12, 1J Eiya, 10, 2; Gay Lawless, 9.10, 3. Also started—-Strategist 10.7, Knutoford 10.3, Aema 9.10, Parktide 9.3, Divinia 9, Royal Maid 9, Master Stead 9,'Overheard 9. Divinia and Master Stead felL Kauroa took command a mile from home, and won by three lengths, with the third horse a length behind. Time, 2min 63 2-ssec. BATJ.ANCE HACK WELTER, seven furlongs.—Huia, 8.7, 1; Settler, 8.7, 2; Waitoto, 10 J 5, 3. Also started—Kurapotangi 9.4, Mediterranean 9.3, Whimper 8.10, Topnote 8.10, Taurangi, 8.7, Otama 8.7, Aberooed 8.7, Reflect 8.7, Resonant 8.7, Crown Battery 8.7. Huia was first away, but was headed by Settler, who led to the half-distance, where Huia came again and won by half a' length, with Waitoto two lengths away third. Time, Imin 29. 2-ssec. Douglas’s blk f Manitau, fiyrs, 7.12 3 Also started —Lady Montoa 8.3, Rangitaua 8.5, Katna 8.5, British Maid 7.4, Falsetto 7.2, Lord Renown Katna led to the home turn, where Ariom drew out and wou by a length and a half from Bonnie Boy, with Manitau a good third. Time, Imin 58 l-ssec. SETTLERS’ HACK, six furlongs.— Expect, 9,1; Black Lupin, 8.7, 2; Borsil, 6.12, 3. Also started —Sir Daniel 8, Sir Saracen 7.7, Yankee Doodle 7.2, Lambton 7, Moondine 6.12, Waiotapu 6.12. Yankee Doodle and Lambton led the field for half the distance and then Black Lupin took command and looked a -likely winner until a dozen yards from the post, when Expect appeared on the scene and won by a length. It was seen that the saddle on the winner was slipping over the hack of the horse when passing the post, and W. Young, the rider, was cheered on returning to scale. Time, Imin 6 2-ssec. SHORTS HANDICAP, five furlongs. —Sinapis, 8.5, 1; Lord Possible, 8.4, 2; Vibration, 8.5, 3. Also started— Naumai 8.8, Ascalon 8, Merton 7.8, Waioru 7.2, Handsome Maid 6.7. A. most exciting race. Naumai and Vibration led into the straight, when they were joined by Sinapis and Lord Possible. Twenty yards from the post Sinapis shot out and won by a clear length, with a head separating second and third - Time, Tmin If see, HACK- SCURRY, five furlongs.—No Idea 1, Chatsil 2, Cadonia 3. Also started —Invicta, Prestwich, Courtley, Lady Worry, Viper, Kokiri, Operation, Rangapoi, HmoXaddo. Elkmaod, Lyrock, Merritnoe. Won easily by a length. Time,- Imin Sisoc. M ATTAR. ATTAR A HANDICAP, one mile, —Lady Nolan, 8, 1 j Mon Ami, 9.3, 2; Thraye, 10.3, 3, Also started
—Eclogue 9, Negative 8.13, Mount Victoria, 8.11, Montreal 8.10. A splendid race. All the horses were together entering the straight, where Mount Victoria and Lady Nolan took charge, and these two were joined by Mon Ami and Throve. A ding-dong go to the post resulted in Lady Nolan training by a length, and half a length between second and third. Tune, 1 min 44sec. TV. Young rode Eorimoe in the Scurry, and when a few yards from the post fell off and suffered from slight concussion. Before the start in the Autumn Handicap British Maid bolted and threw her rider, and then went twice round the course. During the afternoon a protest was lodged against Expect, the winner ot the Settlers’ Hack, but was dismissed by the stewards.
