ALLEGED THEFT OF BOOKS

Press Association, AUCKLAND, February SO. In the Police Court Frederick John Craddock, lately a member of the firm of Craddock Hardware Company, Christchurch, was charged that about January 25th he stole the records of the company, a private ledger, cash book, list of book debts, etc. Craddock left Christchurch at the end of January and has since been staying at various places in Auckland. He was arrested last night, when he was about to board the southbound express. Amongst his effects were several records sought by the company. Craddock was also charged with being about to leave New Zealand without making adequate provision for hi* wife’s maintenance. Accused was remanded to Christchurch. Counsel asked for bail, but the police opposed,. stating that accused had really absconded from the south, and had taken the name of Finnan when he left Christchurch. Later he assumed the name of FlavelL Bid! was refused.
