CHARGE OF PERJURY
Press Association. PATTTATUA, February 20. Three young men—James Farrell, Walter Hirst, and George Gregory, farmers, of Konini—were charged yesterday before the Magistrate (Mr Poynton) with committing perjury in the local court on January 28tn. The charge arose out of a case wherein Farrell was fined by Mr Reid. S.M., for' assaulting a Chinaman named-Wong Jack. Hirst and Gregory were witnesses on' that, occasion for the defence. Beth Farrell and Hirst swore they were never in the Chinaman's shop and that Farrell never assaulted the Chinaman. The charge against Gregory was dismissed. Farrell and Hirst pleaded not guilty were committed for trial at the Supreme Court. Bail was allowed.
