SEAMEN’S COMPENSATION ACT
A circular memorandum has been addressed by the Commonwealth Customs Department to - shipowners throughout t ho''Comon wealth, calling attention to the' pro-visions of the Seamen’s Compensation Act, 1911. The Act, provides for the payment; of compensation to seamen injured in the course of their employment, or, where death results from such injury, to the members of . the seaman’s family which at the time of the injury was wholly or in ’ part dependent upon his earnings--Section- 16 of- the,. Act provides _ that-! the owner or master of every ship on which sebmen to which the Act applies are employed shall furnish to the Comptroller-General of Customs correct returns as to the injuries received by seamen and -the amount of -compensa--tion paid during the previous year or such period as- may be specified. ,
